Cornwall and romance are a match made in heaven. Forget the traditional box of chocolates; 2020 is the year for stunning, fiery sunsets, hand-in-hand beach walks, and hygge evenings with the one you love – pair those with a boutique hotel overlooking the Mevagissey Bay and you have a romantic Valentine’s Weekend to remember.
Here’s our list of the most romantic places and things to do in Cornwall, from cruising along scenic rivers by boat to watching shooting stars fill the night sky.
A boat trip along the Fal River
Anywhere that sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has romance written all over it. Dolphins, seals and sometimes even whales have been spotted in the tranquil waters of the Fal River! There are several companies that run boat trips throughout the year, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the views.
A day out at Kynance Cove
There’s something magical about this place. Located on the west side of the Lizard Peninsula is Kynance Cove – probably the most photographed and loved location in all of Cornwall. Famous for its white sand and turquoise seas, you could be forgiven for thinking you were sunbathing on a far away tropical land on a summer’s day here!
Star gazing on Bodmin Moor
Bodmin Moor was awarded Dark Sky Landscape status in July 2017 in recognition of its exceptionally dark skies, commitment to reducing light pollution and promoting educational outreach – which is a terribly unromantic way of saying the stars in this part of Cornwall are out of this world. Wrap up warm and lift your eyes towards to the skies for a wonderfully awe-inspiring evening.
No trip to Cornwall is complete without a stroll around a quintessential Cornish harbour. Watch fishermen bring their catches ashore, listen to waves gently lapping against bobbing boats and – sounds like perfect quality time together to us. Polperro, Fowey and Mevagissey are all just a short hop away from our front door.
A picnic at Trevose Head
You’ll find wall-to-wall seascapes and views that span the entire county at this north coast beauty spot. Wander hand-in-hand past the sights of the lifeboat station at Mother Ivey’s and Trevose Head Lighthouse, before settling down on the headland with a picnic (be sure to wrap up and bring a blanket). The golden hour is the most romantic time of the day as the sun sets over the Atlantic, casting a golden light across the Duchy – you might even be lucky enough to spot a few dolphins dancing through the waves!
