Our Guide to a Grown Up Bank Holiday

It’s that time of year again: the schools are on holiday, and whilst we love the little ones, sometimes, a bit of adults-only time is just what we need!

If you’ve booked a romantic break to take a rest from the kids, we’re here to help with your much needed rest and relaxation…

So here’s a few of our favourite secret spots in Cornwall for child-free fun!

Get Off The Beaten Track

Heligan and the Eden Project are close by, but we think it may be best to save them for the school term when they’re quieter, so instead, head for Pinetum Park or Pine Lodge Gardens, both of which tend to be quieter, but just as stunning.

Explore the South West Coast Path

Granted, this one isn’t necessarily child-free, but with long stretches of glorious coastline to explore, it’s quite easy to find yourself not having bumped into another soul for an hour or two. For an extra grown-up feeling, pack a bottle of wine and a picnic and find a quiet spot in the sunshine. Sorry kids, no orange juice here.

Drink Up!

Ahhh the one place where you shouldn’t be interrupted: a local pub. Soak up the Spring sunshine in a nearby beer garden, such as The Barley Sheaf at Gorran Haven, which even features a pool table, a dart board and a mini library. Further afield, enjoy a pint in at one of Cornwall’s quirkier pubs, such as Falmouth’s Beowulf Books or taste test the local scrumpy at Polperro’s favourite free house, the Blue Peter Inn.

Hideaway

If none of this takes your fancy, there’s a simple solution, much closer to home… hide! Although we do have families staying with us and the kids always brilliantly behaved, the majority of our guests are adults; between our own secret beach, our sub-tropical gardens equipped with sun loungers, our summerhouse and our AA* Rosette restaurant, you could easily wile a day away without leaving the comfort of the hotel!
